For this assignment, the students had to use several camera angles, and editing techniques to make a short video that depicts a word. We began by working in couples to come up with a clear story that lasted 60 to 90 seconds by brainstorming various ways to express our given word through sounds, images, and symbols. After filling out and submitting a brainstorming sheet, we made a 15-slide storyboard outlining their shot order and editing strategies. Following the recording of all original video footage (apart from audio), we had to work together to edit the film. The finished work had to be one to one and a half minutes long, with no dialogue and only instrumental music or sound effects allowed.
To ensure that everyone worked equally and to create creative ideas, our brainstorming session was a must. We explored many viewpoints and storylines by having a discussion, exchanging ideas, and expanding on each other's recommendations.
We were able to visualize the film with the help of the storyboard, which made sure that our shots made sense and effectively expressed the information we wanted to get across. We were able pinpoint any holes in the story by outlining each scene. We were directed by this plan during the production phase, which improved the speed of the filming process. We could have connected the film to the word we were give more, but we did a good job while filming.
